Just under two weeks after the fantastic weekend in Uden it was time for the next concert: Starchild in Alphen aan de Rijn. The venue was the beautiful Parkvilla Theater en like before the concert was made possible by the unwavering efforts of the guys of Serious Music Alphen. It is awesome that these music enthousiasts manage to put together these great shows. Thank you Lenne and Hans and the entire team!
It was again a night to remember. Without opening act or afterparty, the guys had all the time to really show their stuff. The first half of the evening was filled with songs from Monolith and H.A.L., among which were two of my personal favorites, Semi and Buio Intorno. This first set ended naturally with Computer Malfunction, after which we had a fifteen minute break.
The second set consisted of the complete performance of Starchild, right from the hauntingly beautiful Insieme Delle Cose up to the perfect closer: Prometeo Tra Le Stelle. And of course most fans sang along with passion on ‘Hic stellarum plena est’. This really was a moment in which you could feel the energy flowing between audience and band.
As an encore the band performed three classics, Redrum from the album Shining, and Passerà Presto and Via Da Wismar from the album Nosferatu Il Vampiro.
For me the highlight of the evening came after the concert. The guys needed to depart for Germany the same evening and had told us they would most likely started packing immediately after the concert. But actually we had brought a small suprise for the boys. Luckily the organization let us go backstage, so we could present our gift to the band: four official fanclub T-shirts. They liked them very much and immediately put them on, and actually followed us to the foyer for a quick chat and some photo’s with the fans, all in ‘our’ T-shirts.
After a final goodbye and hugs we too returned home. For us it was the last frog-concert of 2018. But we were sure we would see the boys in 2019 (and as it turned out, we now have booked our trip to Cambridge ;-))
