RanestRane was formed in 1998 and consists of Daniele Pomo (vocals, drums and percussion), Massimo Pomo (guitars), Maurizio Meo (bass guitar and double-bass) en Riccardo Romano (keyboards and backing vocals). The name RanestRane means ‘strange frogs’ (i.e. ‘rane strane’) and was inspired by the story “Hop Frog” by Edgar Allen Poe.
The band creates rock operas based on famous films, where music and song is intertwined with soundeffects and dialogs from the movie. This can be fully appreciated during their live performances, the so called ‘CineConcerti’, as the movie is shown in its entirety, with a live band playing the music.
On their website, the band itself describes it thus: “In the concept albums, the music is composed to support the film’s narrative, in order to lead audience to think that the movie has been written to accompany the music and not viceversa. RanestRane’s project aims to create a new approach to the way spectators experience the film screening: hearing the movie while perceiving a sound with the eyes.”
